Apatosaurus louisae
Apatosaurus louisae is one of the species we see inside the Genus Apatosaurus. This genus of Sauropod Dinosaur lived in the Late Jurassic Period, and specifically around 150 million years ago, during the Tithonian age. The fossils have been found in USA. The size of this species is estimated 21 - 23 meters long and 16 - 22 tons heavy.
As a Sauropod Dinosaur Apatosaurus was probably herbivore. The skull of Apatosaurus louisae indicates that the teeth were used only for cutting the leaves of the trees and not for chewing them inside the mouth. We make this conclusion because the teeth are in the front part of the jaw and they are thin, small and curved to the front side of the mouth. In modern herbivores the teeth are in the back part of the jaw and are strong and wide, so they can grind the plant material.
